Our Heritage

1915 - The company's history dates from the organization of J.H. Pomeroy & Co., Inc. in 1915 as a structural steel erection contractor in the Pacific Northwest. During the next two decades Pomeroy participated in the construction of major bridges and buildings in Oregon and Washington.

1930s - In the mid thirties, Pomeroy moved its corporate headquarters to the San Francisco Bay Area, and using its structural steel erection capability as a basis, expanded the company's operations into the general heavy civil construction, with emphasis on bridges, wharves and industrial buildings.

1940s - When the United States became involved in World War II, Pomeroy undertook a variety of defense construction projects, including the construction of shipyards and military bases in the United States and overseas.

1958 - Pomeroy acquired Ben C. Gerwick, Inc. The Gerwick firm, organized in 1926, was a pioneer in the specialized field of deep foundation construction and the manufacture of precast prestressed concrete products. Pomeroy has remained a major participant in these disciplines, and enjoys a national reputation for excellence in the manufacture of prestressed concrete elements.

1967 - Pomeroy was acquired by a publicly held corporation, and for the next fourteen years continued to expand its general construction activities throughout the United States, while also becoming heavily involved in the construction of petroleum related facilities in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

1980s - During this period Pomeroy was returned to private ownership. Pomco was formed and set up in St. Petersburg, FL. Among the major Projects completed were the Seven - Mile Bridge, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and the Florida Sun Coast Dome. In 1989, Pomeroy formed a joint venture with Artlo Industries, known as Artlo Associates, and began producing product for the Wasco and Delano State prison projects in a Perris, CA facility.

1990s - Artlo Associates established itself as a premier structural precast supplier in southern California. In 1993 Pomeroy Corporation was formed after being purchased by Kasler Corporation, a major southern California infrastructure constructor. Shortly after this acquisition, Washington Construction purchased Kasler. In 1996 Washington Construction Company and Morrison Knudsen Corporation merged to form a company with tremendous global capabilities.

2000s - The 21st century saw incredible growth in Pomeroy's operations with major projects throughout California. Pomeroy lent its expertise to several key industry research projects: The first research involved the Precast Seismic Structural Systems (PRESSS) program that initiated the testing of a 5-story building in the Powell Laboratory at UCSD. This research was aimed at verifying the performance of precast structures subjected to seismic loading. The second one involved a demonstration project for FHWA and Caltrans involving the use of precast prestressed concrete as replacement pavement slabs for urban freeways.

In 2008 we were acquired by US Concrete
