Pomeroy
is one of the major producers of prestressed concrete crossties in the
United States. Since pioneering the mass production of concrete ties
in 1957, Pomeroy has successfully designed and produced a variety of
ties which today are proving economically competitive and functionally
superior on urban transit, high-speed and heavy-duty railroads.
In 1968 the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District selected
Pomeroy's design for approximately 150,000 concrete ties for the BART
transit system. Our unique 9 foot tie continues to be used to this day
for extensions to the BART network.
In 1977, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation chose
Pomeroy ties for upgrading 456 miles of Amtrak's heavily traveled
Northeast Corridor route connecting Washington, New York and Boston.
1.1 million crossties were provided for that project.
After 190,000 transit ties were supplied to Los Angeles County
in 1987/88, the same 8 foot tie was chosen for the San Diego MTDB
between 1988 and 1994, and the Sacramento Rapid Transit System between
1994 and 1997. |
